Serene (“Serene,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a Chrome extension published by Studio Kunj. This Privacy Policy explains how Serene collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you install or use the Serene Chrome extension.

1. What Serene Does
 

• Serene is an AI writing assistant for Chrome. It helps users analyze and rewrite text inside supported web text fields. Serene’s single purpose is to provide writing analysis and rewrite suggestions when the user chooses to use those features.
   

2. Information We Collect and Process
 

Serene may collect, process, or store the following information in order to provide its functionality:

 

1. Information provided by you

   • OpenAI API key that you enter into the extension.

   • Gumroad license key that you enter to activate Serene.

   • Text that you choose to submit for analysis or rewriting through the extension.

   • ​OpenAI API key

   • License session data, such as session token and expiry time

   • Preferred writing language

   • Local usage totals, such as feature usage and token counts, along with encrypted prompt cache and related configuration data required for the extension to function.
      

3. ​Technical and operational data

   • ​Limited request and service data necessary to validate licenses, manage sessions, deliver prompts, protect against abuse, and operate the service securely.
     
      

​Serene is not designed to collect a user’s browsing history as a standalone feature. Serene accesses website text only as needed to provide its user-facing writing assistant features.​

3. How We Use Information
 

We use information only as necessary to operate, maintain, secure, and improve Serene’s disclosed functionality. This includes:

• Validating your license

• Managing your license session

• Delivering the configuration required for the extension to work

• Sending user-submitted text to the AI provider for analysis or rewriting at your request

• Saving your local settings and usage information so Serene remains configured between sessions

• Protecting the service from misuse, fraud, or abuse

• Complying with legal obligations
   

4. How Information Is Shared
 

We do not sell personal data. We do not use or transfer user data for advertising, data brokerage, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated profiling.

Serene may share information with:

 

• OpenAI, to analyse or rewrite text that you submit through the extension

• Gumroad, to verify your license purchase or activation status

• Hosting and infrastructure providers, including Vercel, to support backend operations such as license validation, session handling, and prompt delivery

• Legal authorities or other parties, where required by law, regulation, or valid legal process
   

5. Website Content and Limited Use
 

Serene accesses website content only as necessary to provide its disclosed single purpose: analysing and rewriting user-submitted text in supported web text fields.

For Serene:
 

• Website content is processed only when you use the extension’s features

• We do not sell website content or user data

• We do not use website content or user data for advertising or unrelated purposes

• We do not transfer website content or user data except as necessary to provide or improve Serene’s core functionality, comply with law, or protect against abuse or security threats
   

Serene’s use of information adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
 

6. Local Storage
 

Serene stores certain information locally in your browser using Chrome extension storage, including:
 

• OpenAI API key

• License session data, such as session token and expiry time

• Preferred writing language

• Encrypted prompt cache and related configuration data

• Local usage totals, such as feature usage and token counts
   

This local data generally remains on your device unless you remove it, clear extension storage, or uninstall the extension.
 

7. Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
 

For Serene:
 

• Locally stored extension data may remain until you remove it or uninstall the extension

• License validation records, operational logs, and security logs may be retained for a limited period for security, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, and legal compliance

• Text submitted for analysis or rewriting is processed to provide the requested functionality. We do not intentionally retain that text longer than necessary for that purpose, except where retention is required for security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or third-party provider processing
   

8. Security
 

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information handled by Serene. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Third-Party Services

Serene relies on third-party services to operate. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies and terms. These may include: OpenAI, Gumroad, Vercel or related hosting providers

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of those providers
before using Serene.

 

10. Your Choices
 

You may choose not to use Serene or not to provide required information such as an API key or license key, but some or all functionality may not work without it.
 

You may also remove locally stored extension data by clearing the extension’s storage or uninstalling the extension.

 

11. Children’s Privacy
 

Serene is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age required in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.

 

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
 

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we do, we will post the updated version on this page and update the Effective Date above. Continued use of Serene after the updated policy becomes effective means you accept the revised policy, to the extent permitted by law.
